Waste in Place
"A Wise Investment in Earth's Future"

Keep America Beautiful's Waste in Place is an interdisciplinary, supplementary environmental program focusing on litter prevention and solid waste management for educators of kindergarten through sixth grade. The curriculum includes lessons on litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling, composting, waste-to-energy, and landfills. Its “How We Manage Garbage: Overview” provides in-depth background on solid waste concepts.

Waste in Place is an excellent curricular resource to support implementation of classroom recycling and waste management. Teachers can utilize the relevant environmental theme of recycling and waste management to promote student mastery of California content standards in science, history-social studies, mathematics, reading-language arts, dance, music, and theatre arts. The lessons have been correlated to all the California content standards. Please click below for desired grade level correlations. The following are links to Microsoft Word documents.
